Education and Care
At Dallow Stars Pre-school, we believe that all children have an equal right to protection. We comply with the Luton Safeguarding Children Board procedure and with the Section 11 Children Act 2004. We strive to provide a space in which children are safe and well. In the rare case of any deviation from this, we are committed to a prompt, professional and appropriate response.
Our Safeguarding Policy and procedures are available at the nursery, please speak to a member of staff.
Dallow Stars are committed to follow the Early Years Foundation Stage framework. Here are some of the basic themes we follow:
EARLY YEARS OUTCOMES
Children develop and learn in unique ways and at different rates. We encourage our children to become effective learners through the development of play and exploration, active learning and creative and critical thinking.
Our 2-5 year olds build on these prime areas with the addition of four prime subjects- Literacy, Mathematics, Understanding the World and Expressive arts and Design.
We are committed to make positive steps in your child’s education, through enjoyable learning.
Children learn strength and independence from a base of loving and secure relationships with parents and/or a key person.
We focus on learning through play which encourages exploration and investigation, helping children reach their potential in a safe and healthy environment, supported by our well-trained team of professional and caring employees.
YOUR CHILD’S EDUCATIONAL DEVELOPMENT
A Unique Child
Every child is a competent learner from birth who can be resilient, capable, confident and self assured.
We always encourage our children in both structured learning and free play. This balance provides children with independence and life skills.
The environment plays a key role in supporting and extending children’s development and learning.
Parents participate in our nursery homework programme which involves both family and nursery in own child’s learning.

Health and Nutrition
We at Dallow Stars are passionate about healthy and active lifestyles. Changing habits and behaviours of children at a young age is key. Therefore, we engage in the following projects so our children can achieve their maximum potential.
Dallow stars pre-school is part of the Family Food First programme, which works with education settings to inspire children and families to lead a healthier lifestyle. The promotion of good nutrition and health is practised across the whole setting.
Alongside healthy eating, Dallow Stars aims to adhere to the Department of Health Physical Activity guidelines for under 5s where all walkers should be physically active for 180 minutes each day. We practice Purposeful Physical Play where children’s physical development is expanded and developed through their physical skills.
The Daily Mile is another programme which we implement at Dallow Stars. The aim of The Daily Mile is to improve the children’s physical, social and emotional wellbeing. This is a social physical activity, with children running, jogging or walking- at their own pace- in the fresh air with their friends for 15 minutes. It helps improves fitness ,achieves a healthy weight and encourages children to be aware of their health.
